Abstract

The dissertation of “Buddhist Integration of Vedanā Contemplation to Relieve the Pain of Cancer Patients” has three objectives. 1) To study the pain of cancer patients in medical science. 2) To study Vedanā Contemplation in Buddhist.  3) To study Buddhist Integration of Vedanā Contemplation to Relieve the Pain of Cancer Patients. This is documentary qualitative research and interview sample group. The research found:

Vedanā or pain in medical science, someone with cancer has severe suffer pain. How much pain that cancer patient feel depends on a number of factors, including the type of cancer the patient have, how advanced it is, where it's situated and patient pain tolerance. Cause of major physical pain is how advance cancer is. Psychological depress and anxiety decrease patience. The level of pain is evaluated by doctor, such as interviewing with comprise of pain assessment tool, physical examination, laboratory or radiation. These are approach to appropriate pain management.

Vedanā Contemplation in Buddhist, there are three different types; sukkha-vedana ,  dukkha-vedana and neighter dukkha nor sukkah-vedana. The proposal practice to relieve the pain of cancer patients are: Consciousness (Mindfulness), Indiscretion (A-pamada), Insight Meditation, Bare Attention (Non-Upadana), Patience (khanti) and Tilakkhana. Not only relieve pain for cancer patients but also Vedanā Contemplation  approach reach to ultimate goal of enlightment.

Buddhist Integration of Vedanā Contemplation to Relieve the Pain of Cancer Patients is synthesis by three; Buddhist, Patient and Medical. The model of four P A C R proposing: 1. P is “Percept” means learning & understanding what you are, P for “Pain Management” in medical, 2. A is “Accept” means acceptance & adaptation of life changing, A for “Action” in medical, 3. C is “Conscious” means mindfulness at presents, C for “Cure” in medical, and 4. R is “Release” means non-attachment, R for “Recovery” in medical. These are the keys model of P A C R. The researcher found that, Buddhist Integration of Vedanā Contemplation to Relieve the Pain of Cancer Patients will develop and enlarge medical affairs to advance the public health.
